Recovery Center Keeps Families Together

Thursday September 9, 2004
The Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida is one of only a few treatment centers where mother and children can reside together for up to 18 months, while the mother is addressing her addicition.

"The Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center provides comprehensive treatment and support services for the mothers while addressing the critical needs of the children as well," said Michale Barton, director of operations. "Families are allowed to reside together in our residential homes for up to 18 months. Keeping the family together is an important factor in the healthy bonding between the mothers and their children."

The center offers the following services:

Residential Program: Women and their children may remain in the residential component for up to eighteen months. Services include: housing; 24 hour supervision; transportation; 12 Step meetings and house meetings.

Outpatient Services: All women and children residing in our residential program receive Outpatient services while they are in our residential program and for up to three years after leaving the residential program. These services include: individual, family and group counseling for women and children; psychiatric services; substance abuse treatment, relapse prevention groups, parenting classes; trauma and other women-focused groups; vocational, educational counseling; and case management services.

Developmental Assessment and Intervention Program: This program was designed to address the developmental deficits of the children. An in-depth assessment is provided for every child. The developmental intervention specialist then teaches the mothers how to work with their child(ren) in improving their developmental milestones.

Aftercare Program: Women and their children may participate in aftercare services for up to three years after leaving the residential program. The aftercare program provides the following: home visits to the women and children in their new homes, relapse prevention groups; planned activities with transportation provided; and case management services.
