'The Cleaner' Returns for 2nd Season on A&E
"The Cleaner," an A&E Television drama series inspired by a true story of William "The Cleaner" Banks, returns for its second season Tuesday night at 10 p.m. Eastern. The series is about an extreme interventionist who, along with his unconventional team, helps people get clean by any means necessary. The show features former Law & Order star Benjamin Bratt as William Banks.
Although the show dramatically portrays fictional characters and situations to grab and hold the viewer's attention, the series may be the best ever on television for accurately dealing with the real-life issues surrounding addiction.
Dealing With Addiction Issues
The series follows William Banks, an addict who hit bottom from his own addiction after the birth of his daughter. He strikes a tentative deal with God to give him a second chance and Banks would work to help others with their addictions, as a would-be avenging angel.
Banks is played by Benjamin Bratt, who formerly played Detective Ray Curtis on NBC's "Law & Order." Bratt also produces the series.
This season's first episode deals with addiction issues on varying levels. Whoopi Goldberg guest stars as William faces his old sponsor when another old friend and fellow program member asks for his help to get her husband clean.
Accurate Portrayal of the Issues
The challenge Banks faces is in the fact that the husband, played by guest Gary Cole, is a national news anchor as well as national spokesperson for recovery. "The Cleaner" also stars Esteban Powell, Amy Price-Francis, and Grace Park.
If the second season is as on target as the first season, A&E's "The Cleaner" will do a better job of portraying the issues involved in the dynamics of addiction, and how it affects everyone around the addict, than the networks own reality series "Intervention."
Not to mention, a lot more entertaining.

I am eagerly anticipating the return of “The Cleaner” but am disappointed that it is not tonight!
Honestly, the television show’s first season was fantastic, and coupled with the fact of my own sobriety on June 24, 2008, was perfectly timed for me.
I am certain that anyone interested in addiction for whatever reason will find this program a source of knowledge as well as inspiration and hope.
I love this show. It has been an inspiration to my son who got really messed up on drugs and alcohol after his return from Iraq. Thank you for everything
This is the best show on TV. While I have never done drugs and I don’t drink much I am addicted to nicotene (does that count?) I don’t understand while we had to wait a year to see the next season. Please AETV if your not into this show sell it to another network that will do a better job of getting it on the air regularly.
I was just told about what you do. I need help for my ex husband. He is alone and had no one. We were married for one yr. and divorced on 2007. He is a good, intelligent man. What can you do?
