Feds Relax Policy on Medical Marijuana
Dude! Did you hear the news, man? Obama made marijuana legal! That's not what happened.
Sure it is! I just saw it on my iPhone!
Sorry, but you're a couple of letters short of a full Tweet there. Nobody made smoking pot legal.
Well, they said they weren't going to arrest anyone for personal possession or cultivating weed, man, so that means it might as well be legal, right?
No, what the Justice Department announced was that federal drug agents will no longer make it a "priority" to arrest or prosecute people who are legally using, selling or supplying medical marijuana in the states that allow it.
Well, I get real anxious when I don't smoke, so ganja is medicine for me!
First of all, you have to live in one of the 14 states that already have laws that allow for some use of marijuana for medical purposes. That would be Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington.
I ain't moving, I can't afford it.
Secondly, you would have to have a medical condition that a doctor thinks medical marijuana would benefit and you would have to have a prescription to buy it at approved dispensaries, in most of the states that allow it.
Bummer, dude. I thought cannabis was finally legal and I could break out my bong anytime!
