For most people, no, marijuana is not addictive. The vast majority of pot smokers never become addicted. But just because it rarely happens, doesn't mean it never happens. Some smokers exhibit all the classic signs of addiction. Read more...

I’ve seen you do this before…spinning the truth……

Whether marijuana has become more addictive or not, the number of people seeking treatment for marijuana abuse has increased significantly. According to studies, the number of children and teenagers in treatment for marijuana dependence and abuse has increased 142% since 1992.

Kids are given a choice to go to jail or rehab by our justice system. What would you choose idiot ? So don’t spin it like they are in rehab of their own free will

There may form a psychological dependency in as much as a person becomes addicted to chocolate or something else arbitrary. Which is a likeness that the individual would require help for any manner of thing or situation. THC lacks the chemically dependant attributes of that of opiates for instance.

Personally, I am NOT a pot smoker. I never enjoyed it. But have known many throughout the years who do. Marijuana addiction is, in my opinion, a myth of the latter day (failed) war on drugs. I agree with “Bill’s” assessment, if you were given the choice by the courts-would you pick jail? Where ironically, pot is readily available.

I am not a doctor and my opinion is not qualified as such. I am however in the chemistry field and possess many years experience. I have heard the opinions of many medical professionals and doctors over the years on the subject.

I think that if the HTC levels are higher now than they were in the 60’s, then of course the effects are going to be different; like addiction.

I also thought that the pot in the 60’s was a mellow drug. Now we get:
Irritability, Increased mood swings, Increase in aggressive behavior

I show signs of this, but continue to smoke. I don’t have to have it but if it’s there I will finish it. Day and night. Not good! I feel bad

first of all, its THC not HTC and to be quite frank it has been proven that marijuana has always fluctuated in its potency and that the samples gathered in the 60’s were mostly bad. As a weekend user myself, i have gotten good stuff and bad stuff so who is to say its all gotten better? Not to mention you sound like someone who does not use it and is trying to set some kind of good example for people looking this up to try it. Let people have their own experiences! maybe the world would be a better place, maybe it wouldnt.

I have been smoking pot for over twenty-five years. The only thing negative that I have ever done while under the influence of “The Evil Maraijuana” is eat too many chips. All of the scientific evidence that was presented in order to make it illegal was based on a completely biased and skewed point of view that has been proven false. The opinion that it is a “gateway drug” is a crock! If you have an addictive personality, you are likely to become addicted to many things. There are countless crimes committed due to alcohol and gambling addictions yet both of those vices are readily available to anyone in the age of majority. Wake up! I’ve never even had a disagreement with anyone while smoking pot!

i think thc isnt addictive, people just trick themselves into thinking its addicted. but arnt we all addicted to something in some sort of way? people today are addicted to pain pills, when they dont even have pain. What do you do when you have a headache, you go take a couple of apirin, isnt that what you do each time? people need to stop spreading “red scares” about drugs that havnt been simply studied due to our poor lack of early government, saying its the “gateway” drug. people are just afraid to find out that a supposivly harmful drug thats been around since time ever started, is not really harmful at all.

NO! Pot is not addictive! That’s just a myth! It can form a habit just like being addicted to the computer but there are no chemicals in it that’s causing the addiction. Technically, you can get addicted to anything.
Also pot isn’t toxic, it would take like 80000 joints to overdose and you would die becouse of the lack of air, not becouse of pot. Statictics have shown that more people have died becouse of peanuts than becouse of pot (yearly 100 people die becouse of peanuts and 0 people die becouse of pot). And it is also proven that it cures cancer (it completely cured a cancer in mice). It’s true that the THC level has risen since 60’s but that only meant you’ll need to smoke less pot to get high, which is good.
