Florida Spring Break Arrests Up 57 Percent

Saturday April 17, 2004
Apparently some college students didn't get the message that getting drunk during Spring Break could have negative consequences. This year in Florida, law enforcement officials reported an increase in alcohol-related arrests involving minors 57 percent higher than last year.

According to the Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, 5,220 arrests were made in the state for underage drinking and alcohol sales to minors between March 8 and April 11. The agency also confiscated 1,000 fake IDs.

The site of most arrests was Panama City, where 2,928 cases were reported. Daytona Beach was second with 1,460, compared to 344 in Key West and 300 in Fort Lauderdale.

Using more than 100 agents to monitor hot drinking spots across the state, the Division made a special effort this year to crack down on spring break drinkers.

..and that is why teens spend most of thier spring break money in Mexico or other countries. If the teens are want to do it, they will.. and we might as well get the tax money, not mexico. Way to go U.S. government.
