Training Resource: Identifying Drug Abusers

Tuesday May 25, 2004
A training module that includes a 37-minute video, instructor's manual, screening forms, and a comprehensive reading list has been developed by the National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information for use in teaching drug screening and identification techniques.

According to a NCADI update, the video features four client screening interviews, and may be used in a variety of health care and professional settings. The instructor's manual includes role playing exercises, guides for small group discussions, and learner activity assignments. Produced in conjunction with the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), this module focuses on identifying users of psychoactive substances other than alcohol.

Identifying Drug Abusers is available for $12.50. To order, call SAMHSA's NCADI at (800) 729-6686 and ask for item VHS149. A two-video alcohol screening package (VHS148), also from NIAAA, is available for just $20.
