SoberMatches.com Offers Free Memberships

Monday January 30, 2006
A new online dating service is now accepting memberships from those who wish to meet sober people for fellowship, friendship or dating. What makes this service stand out from other online dating sites is that the developers are clean and sober with several years experience participating in online communities that promote sobriety.

The developers of SoberMatches.com have participated for several years in the chat rooms and forums at the About Alcoholism / Substance Abuse site and at other online recovery-related sites. I consider them to be long-time friends.

Their experience in dealing with the special challenges of online communities has given them the background to develop a service focused on protecting the privacy of those who become members. They do this on SoberMatches.com through a process of built-in features which gives each member full control over how much information is shared.

"We provide an on-site email inbox for members so that not even their personal email addresses are revealed," the developers said. "Members can automatically block anyone from contacting them through email, instant messenging or chat; they don't need to contact an administrator to do it for them. They are in control."

Other key features of the new SoberMatches service include:

  • The site is opened to all who wish to meet sober people, not just for those in recovery-based programs, to expand the possibilities of meeting compatible friends.

  • SoberMatches is not a recovery or self-help site, but opportunities for those who wish to share their experience, strength and hope is provided.

  • Members can sign up and test the site free. This includes free registration, a free personal profile including photos, a free perfect match profile and the use of the members quick search tool.

  • Free membership also provides a personalized home page where members can see how many people have visited their personal profile, find out who wants to meet them, set up "hot lists" and "black lists" and track perfect matches.

  • The site offers premium services that give members the ability contact other members through email, the on-site instant message system, chat rooms, and even create their own personal blog.
  • The How It Works page explains both the free features available to all members and the different levels of premium services available.
