Web Sites to Provide Drug Offender Registries

Every state now has an online registry of sex offenders, and now several states have taken steps to set up Web sites where residents can find out if they have someone living near them who has been convicted of making and selling methamphetamine. Four states have already passed laws setting up meth offender registries online, two more states are about to vote on them and several states will consider similar legislation next year.

"It lets the community know that there's someone like this in their community, because the likelihood of them going back and doing it again is high," Georgia state Rep. Mike Coan told MSNBC. "It's no different, really, from the sex offender (registry). If there's one living near me, I want to know it." The move has, of course, drawn criticism from some observers. Read more...
