Many alcohol and drug rehabilitation and treatment centers offer both inpatient and outpatient services for alcoholics and their families.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: varies

Here's How:

  1. Telephone numbers for treatment centers can be found in the Yellow Pages of the local telephone directory under 'Alcoholism.'
  2. Contact the centers in your area and ask questions about the services they provide. Some centers specialize in specific addictions.
  3. Check your current health insurance to make sure alcohol treatment is covered, some policies do not.
  4. If you have no insurance, or your policy does not cover alcohol rehab, there are free services available in most areas, usually with waiting lists.
  5. Ask around for recommendations concerning centers in your area. Some are better than others.

Tips:

  1. Detox centers are short-term programs designed to 'dry out' alcoholics. Treatment centers offer long-term rehabilitation programs.
  2. A good place to call to get recommendations on centers might be Alcoholics Anonymous. They would know the centers with the best reputations.
