Court-Mandated A.A. - What's the Goal?

In the time that I spent interning at a treatment center for those who had intoxicated driving offenses, I found that people came to our program very angry and defensive.

Drunk Driving

The Dangers
The penalties and the consequences of driving while intoxicated.

They hated being forced to go to therapy. They also hated being forced to attend AA. However, at the end of the sessions, there were always people who were glad that they did it.

A few became quite committed to sobriety. Others sought further data. There were also people who thought it was a waste of time.

By and large, most people made the committment to not drink and drive again....which is the program's goal. Keep in mind that the court's goal is not to help people go straight. Only to convince them not to drink and drive.
