Visitors to the Alcoholism site at About.com now have a place they can meet Friday and Saturday in Minneapolis -- many meeting face-to-face for the first time.

Not only will we be able to meet each other, but we will also be able to log on to the Alcoholism site and say, "Hi" to our friends in the chat rooms and on the Forum bulletin board.

Thanks to the cooperation of AAonline -- A.A. Chat meetings at AOL -- we will have a meeting place and a telephone line available at the Hyatt Regency in their hospitality suite.

The hospitality suite is located in the Lake Nokomis room on the 5th Floor of the Hyatt Regency, which is located just across from the Minneapolis Convention Center and connected to the center via skywalk. Click here for detailed directions to the room and a map.

To meet your friends from the chat room or Forum, join us in the Lake Nokomis room:

1-4 p.m., Friday, June 30
2-5 p.m., Saturday, July 1

If you are not going to be in Minneapolis, you can log on to Chat Room 1 or 3 during those same hours and get live reports from those who will be attending.

The OIAA Hospitality Suite

You may also meet many of your other online friends on the 5th floor of the Hyatt Regency. The Online Intergroup of A.A. is providing a larger hospitality suite next door in the Lake Superior Room, which will be hosted by representatives from many A.A. online groups throughout Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Some of the groups who will be in the OIAA room include Into the Light, Lamplighters, New Beginnings, KISS, AOL AAmen, AAustralia, GROW, There Is a Solution, GLBTYPAA, Sobervoices, Sisters in Sobriety, AALesbians and others.

The Host Groups will be demonstrating how Online AA works. There will be "live" meetings, including one group that operates using audio and microphones; other groups are hosting email meetings and opening their groups during the convention. OIAA is also hosting a chat meeting on IRC with at home volunteers from all over the world. There are close to 100 volunteers taking part in this effort to enable those not able to attend to be a part in the Convention.

There is also a Bulletin Board for messages to those at the Convention and a Cyber Guestbook which can be found on the OIAA web site.

For a complete schedule of the times these groups will be hosting in the OIAA Lake Superior Room Click Here.

Online Al-Anon, Too!

If you are a member of an online Al-Anon group, you will also have the opportunity to meet some of your online friends at the two workshops that are planned for Online Al-Anon.

The workshops with the theme "Where the WWWorld Meets" are planned Friday, June 30 at 9 a.m. and again Saturday, July 1 at 11:30 a.m. in the Excelsior/Lafayette meeting room at the Marriott.

Several speakers are scheduled for each workshop to discuss online Al-Anon and what it has meant to their recovery. Panel members will also answer questions about how Al-Anon works online.

The workshops will feature speakers and question-and-answer sessions for those interested in online participation as well as a chance for online friends to meet. The workshops are being planned by the Online Al-Anon Information Service.
