Proposed 12 Step Conference
Dateline: 10/13/99A few members of various 12 Step Fellowships would like to put on a Conference celebrating Recovery. This Conference would not be affiliated with any one Fellowship but organized in the spirit of cooperation in accordance with the Traditions. The title is: "Our Primary Purpose And Common Bond - 12 Step Recovery"
This Conference is tentatively scheduled for October 6-8, 2000 and we hope to attract speakers from all Fellowships. We also hope to have enough participants to make this event financially feasible. If there is enough interest generated, the Conference will be held at the Nevele Hotel in Ellenville, New York.
The registration fee will include six meals (Friday Dinner through Sunday Lunch) and lodging for two nights (Friday and Saturday). Price will be determined by amount of people attending and negotiations with the hotel.
Speakers and Marathons
Several well known speakers have expressed interest in doing the keynote addresses and there will be around-the-clock marathons and meetings available. We hope to have over 50 different workshops throughout the weekend, focusing on various aspects of recovery.We hope to include AA, Al-Anon, NA, Nar-Anon, ACOA, CODA, OA, GA, DTR and members of other 12 Step Fellowships participating as well. This Conference will be focusing on 12 Step Recovery as a solution rather than the problems of specific substances or life events.
In order to reserve the hotel we have to guarantee a block of rooms (and make a non-refundable deposit to the hotel). The number of people attending will determine both the amount of rooms needed as well as the financial possibility of transporting some great speakers from around the United States and Canada to share their Experience, Strength and Hope with us all.
Your Input Needed
Before we make any commitment to the hotel, proposed speakers (most need to be booked at least a year in advance) or other invited vendors and guests we will need your input. This is probably the first time such a Conference involving many 12 Step Fellowships has ever been held and it promises to be an exciting opportunity to share Recovery with our brothers and sisters.If you would be interested in attending this Conference or would like further information as well as recommendations for speakers, etc., please contact us at 12steprecovery@groupmail.com.
