Definition: The practice by law enforcement agencies to stop traffic on public streets and highways for the sole purpose of checking drivers for intoxication. The constitutionality of sobriety checkpoints has been upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Also Known As: Roadblocks
Examples: Coming home from the bar, he was stopped at a sobriety checkpoint and arrested.
