Dealing with the Holidays

Visitors to the About.com Alcoholism Forum were asked to share their personal experiences in maintaining sobriety during the holiday season. Their replies provide helpful tips for those who may be struggling to stay clean and sober through the temptations of the holidays.

Lee's Holiday Tip

My sobriety date is 10-10-89 so I truly understand the stress of the holidays especially that first year. My salvation was an Alano Club that was 15 minutes from where I lived at the time.

I literally lived at that club from Thanksgiving to Christmas and New Year. I did spend time with my family also, but the meetings offered much support and suggestions about expectations and acceptance.

Today it is much easier, but I still attend more meetings during this time just to keep me "spiritually fit." God Bless you all, one day at a time.
