How long ago was your last relapse?

What do you think triggered your relapse?

Depression from holidays and family parties where a lot of drinking was going on. My wife died two and a half years ago and every year her family and my family pick the same day to have their holiday party. After spending a few hours there getting more depressed by the minute I left alone heading to my aunt's home. By this point the relapse had began without a drink and knowing there was no way I could drink at my aunt's home as my whole family on both sides knew I got out of detox (my 6th or 7 th time) in six months. So I stopped and got a few pints for after. So now I get there and eating all the good food and watching my brother's cousins drink beer after beer add some JD and a funny cigar and I'm getting very jealous. That was Saturday Dec 28 2007. On Jan 3 2008, I came too in a hospital E.R. on my way to my next detox and rehab and my last, I hope.

Lessons learned

  • At the time and only being 10 days out of detox I should not have even tried to go to these places.
  • As a newbie you have to do what's right for you and screw everybody else. Even now I have to be careful with where I go. Now I have a safe place to go with new friends so if I want I can skip these events and hang out there or make sure to save time to blow off some sober steam
