Although some of her previous books have been semi-autobiographical, this is her first non-fiction effort. Her previous novels include "Surrender the Pink" and "Postcards From the Edge." She also wrote the screenplay for the 1990 "Postcards From the Edge" movie, which was directed by Mike Nichols and starred Meryl Streep and Shirley MacLaine.
In "Wishful Drinking" Fisher looks back on a 20-year battle with substance abuse and bipolar disorder.
