Recovering alcoholics are no different from any of your other guests, they just are not drinking.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 5 minutes

Here's How:

  1. Make sure you have plenty of non-alcoholic beverages on hand, including coffee.
  2. Don't serve dishes cooked with alcohol, and if you do, be sure to tell the recovering alcoholic.
  3. Don't make a big deal out of the fact that one of your guests is not drinking.
  4. Let your guest know (privately) that there are non-alcoholic beverages available, but don't announce it to the entire room.

Tips:

  1. Your alcoholic guest may be a member of an anonymous support group. If so, it is important that you do nothing to 'break' his anonymity by revealing that fact to other guests.
