Definition: Enabling is doing for someone things that they could, and should be doing themselves. In relation to alcoholism, enabling creates a atmosphere in which the alcoholic can comfortably continue unacceptable behavior.
Also Known As: Covering Up, Putting Pillows Under Them
Examples: She discovered that her efforts to help the alcoholic were actually enabling him.
