More than seven years after the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, Scotland Yard investigators returned to the tunnel in which she died with the latest laser technology to investigate the crash site again.

The laser technology, which was not available in 1997 when Diana, Dodi Fayed and their driver Henry Paul died, investigators scanned the Paris tunnel in which their Mercedes crashed. The operation costs at estimated $3.7 million.

The tunnel beneath the Pont de l'Alma was sealed off for eight hours Feb. 15, 2005 as British police officers gathered evidence and used the latest laser technology to scan the Paris tunnel and it's approaches, which will be used to create a three-dimensional computer model of the scene.

The investigation is part of an investigation into the death of Princess Diana by Michael Burgess, Coroner to the Queen's Household, who will conduct an official inquest later this year.

Sir John Stevens is heading up the new investigation. Recently, the Mercedes in which Diana died was moved to Britain for forensic testing. Stevens said his mission is to prove or disprove rival theories about the death of the Princess.

For the French investigators, there is no mystery about the August 31, 1997 incident. A French court concluded, after a two-year investigation, that the crash was caused by the driver Henri Paul, who was intoxicated and on medication and lost control at a high rate of speed while trying to evade photographers.

Conspiracy Theories

But Mohamed Al Fayed, father of Dodi Fayed, has long claimed that the couple was murdered because of the Princess' relationship with a Muslim. Fayed owns the Ritz Hotel where Dodi and Diana ate their last meal before the crash.

Also, Henri Paul's parents have also denied that their son was a heavy drinker and believe his blood sample test results were falsified, although several witnesses came forward who saw him drinking in bars before returning to work to drive the couple's car.
