Dram Shop Laws

Definition: Laws passed by some states that hold businesses responsible if they serve or sell alcohol to someone who is already intoxicated. Dram shop laws also assign liability to servers if someone they serve is injured, or injures or kills someone else.
Also Known As: Bar Liability, Server Liability
Examples: Under the dram shop law, the bartender was held responsible for the drunk driving crash that killed a teenager.
