I Didn't Really Like Alcohol

I got my first drink from my dad, his girlfriends and uncles, who would get a kick out of seeing me drink.

I didn't really like alcohol though. On my first real weekend of binge drinking, I blacked out several times, peed all over myself, puked on myself and others, and realized right away that as long as I didn't ever drink again I would be okay.

Kicked Out at 16

My dad kicked me out at 16 and I found that I could go to bars, pick someone up, and have a place to stay for the night.

I did drink occasionally over the years, but supplemented it with heavy drug use. I have three kids and if I don't do something now, the end of my marriage will come soon.

Have to Do Something Now

I realize that I only substituted drugs for alcohol. My dad died as a result of his alcoholism, at 48. I am 31. I know that I have to do something now.

Your stories, dedication to helping me find and live sobriety, have been the only thing that has kept me going these last several days (4 to be exact).

I sat in my first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in years the other day and cried like a baby. I used to go to 5-7 AA meetings a week with my dad, but that was before my life spun out of control.

I Have to Concentrate on Today

I have lost much, but not everything. But for the grace of God, I should have many times over. I should be in prison. I know that you only get so many chances, before he takes it all.

I woke up this morning and decided not to drink or use today, and that is where I am. I hope that I can do the same tomorrow, but today I have to concentrate on today.
